Palm Beach Atlantic will celebrate Founders Day on Monday, April 3. The day will begin with a special chapel service at 11 a.m. at Family Church Downtown, with guest speaker Dr. Walter Kim sharing “The High Calling of Christian Higher Education”—a calling that deeply moved and inspired our founding members as they brought to life Dr. Jess Moody’s vision for a Christian university. Chapel credit will be offered for students.

Immediately following the service, festivities will continue with a luncheon in Upper Weyenberg, honoring this year’s retiring faculty.

  • Terriel Byrd, Professor of Urban Christian Ministry, has served PBA for 24 years and is on the board of Urban Youth Impact. He has authored two books and made signifant contributions to both Christian and African American studies, with much of his work intertwining the two and addressing the ways they interact with each other.
  • Phyllis King, Professor of Nursing, has served PBA for 12 years, following a long career in adult, pediatric and maternal child health. The School of Nursing has grown significantly under her leadership as Dean since 2019, with the addition of new programs and concentrations drawing in even more students. Her current work in end-of-life care has given her opportunities to present at multiple national and international conferences.
  • Mike Tillett, Assistant Professor of Accounting, has served PBA for 33 years in the Rinker School of Business and was a recipient of PBA’s Annual Outstanding Teaching Award. Outside of his work as a professor, he has had a successful career as a CPA assisting various businesses and the international CPA firm, Coopers and Lybrand, with his accounting and financial planning skills.
